Booting XP after drive imaging

Had a hard drive going bad so I imaged it to a new hard drive.

With the new drive installed the system would not boot.

I boot from the XP installation disk and chose to Repair an XP
installation. Using the Boot command I setup a new boot record named
'1'. Now when I power up I either get the message 'no boot device
present' or I am given a choice between 'Windows XP home edition' or
'1'. When I choose '1' it loads the OS and everything is fine.

I want to eliminate the choice of boot options and I want to make sure
the new hard drive will be seen as the proper boot device everytime?

Should I have pre-formatted the new hard drive with a boot sector or is
there a way to do this without wrecking what's on it?

Any help is appreciated!

check the boot ini. back up your file. then open the file
in note pad, remove the entrie for the windows that are
nto booting and change the time out to 0.. remember to
back up you r file.
