Windows XP does not correctly format a USB flash drive’s boot sector.
Instead use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool to format in FAT32.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...mat-Tool.shtml
This utility enables an image file to be used to boot the USB flash
drive e.g. from a Windows 98 Startup Disk.

For most Linux distros, Universal USB Installer will do the whole job,
including formatting.

To boot from the USB flash drive, keep hitting F12 during boot up,
then select + Hard Disc from the Boot Menu. On the next menu, USB-
HDD0 : NAME will appear at the top of the list and will boot
successfully if the USB flash drive has been formatted correctly.
