Hello!
Windows XP boot CDs stoped finding my existing Windows XP on my HDD after a
Windows XP boot CD tried to repair my existing Windows XP by reinstallation.
It wrote that an arror has occurred and I should contact Microsoft, at the
end
of file copying. 'Bootcfg /rebuild' in the Recovery console stoped finding my
existing Windows XP too. How to recover my existing Windows XP? I removed a
PCI USB card which caused the error at the reinstallation, ran chkdsk c: /p
and /r, which did not find any errors, fixboot c: in the Recovery console,
which did not help too. However, the Recovery console offers me to select my
existing Windows installation c:\windows at the Recovery console startup.
Best regards,
Dima

Back up any data by using a rescue system such as Knoppix or a Bart's PE
and clean-install Windows.

Frankly, from your description of the state of the computer, I don't
think you can. I think you're going to need a clean install. But don't
take my word for it - I can't see your computer. Take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA) for a hands-on diagnosis.

Thanks Malke for your recommendation!
I don't know a professional computer repair shop in Moscow, which knows
Windows better than gurus in these groups.
I can see my computer. I can tell you everything about it. What you need to
know to make a Windows XP boot cd find my existing Windows XP?
Best regards,
Dima

Sorry, but you can't tell me everything about your computer that I need
to know. I would have to look at the machine and much as I'd like to
see Moscow, that isn't possible. If you can't find a computer repair
person in Moscow - which I find very unlikely as Moscow is a very large
city and there are many extremely skilled people in your country - then
bite the bullet and clean-install Windows as suggested.

I really don't have anything more to say about this. I'm sorry that your
computer is in a state, but this happens sometimes. That is why having
a good backup and recovery strategy is necessary.

In addition to what I said in my last post, you should post your issues
clearly on one of the Russian MS newsgroups for Windows. Here is a list
of all the MS newsgroups - scroll down to the section on Russia:

http://aumha.org/nntp.htm

You will be able to explain your issues in your own language and,
although Russia is a huge country, there is a good chance that someone
on the Russian newsgroup(s) will be able to recommend a local
professional to you.

Thanks Malke for the link.
I posted the question into microsoft.public.ru.russian.windowsxp about 48
hours ago but no one has replied.

Thanks Malke for your reply.
You are welcome in Moscow. I can be your guide in Moscow.
I don't know a computer repair person in Moscow, who knows how to make the
Windows XP CD find my existing Windows XP.
At what in the machine would you look?
