having winxp professional running on my machine , twp days ago i was
previewing an uncomplete file whilst still downloading it via a p2p
application when the system suddenly froze completely , i had to manually
restart. after that i noticed that there were problems with booting up and if
i could get it to boot up it would freeze not longer than 10 minutes after i
login to windows...one more thing today i found that when i turn on the
machine the fan's start spinning but there is no activity what so ever and i
have to turn it off then on again for it to boot up (sometimes more than four
or five times) i restored the system in safemode but no luck so i formatted
the HD and installed windows again , but still the problem persists. i used
many hardware analyzing applications , benchmarks and so on and all of them
tell me that my hardware is working fine. i even flashed my motherboard but
still no luck!

Sounds like a damaged or failing motherboard, unless you use an add-in card
for your hard drives. Try a new motherboard, since you have offically done
everything you can.

Try a new power supply.
