I started having boot issues a week or so ago. When I try to restart, the
process hangs at the blue screen (I have the splash screen disabled) that
says processor speed and memory. Then it spontaneously reboots and asks me
what configuration to start in - safe mode, last configuration that worked,
etc. It will always boot ok in safe mode. There is nothing in event viewer,
no minidumps, device manager is fine. I installed adobe illustrator around
the time this started - a pirated version with a patch I had to install to
get it to run. The patch behaved wierdly when I applied it. I removed
illustrator thinking this might be the issue, but it didn't help. A virus
scan reveals no problems.

XP Pro
P4 - 1.5
384 mb rdram

try cleaning the registry of the entries for the pirated
software. there's a good chance that the entries werent
al ldeleted (being a pirated program). i use norton's
windoctor (part of systemworks) but there are others
avaiable at download.com
