If the motherboard supports booting from a USB-HDD you can boot your machine
to DOS from the external drive but in my experience not to Windows (WinMe
and WinXP, don't know about Win98 and Win95). I suspect Windows is coded to
prevent booting from anything other than a fixed disk.
There are some who have said they can boot into WINXP from an external drive
but have never said how to do it so I suspect their claims are an
'exaggeration'.
