I recently upgratd my PC to Windows 2000 Professional, but
i have 2 problems:
First: I had to install Windows 2000 twice, since the
first installation gave me some problems. The second
installiation went smothly and the PC is working fine.
But, now every time I boot I have to choose between 2
Windows 2000. I guess the other one is the first
installation. Is there any way to remove the first
installation or to make the PC start always with the
second installation without asking?

Second: Before the upgrade, my PC turned off automaticly
after Windows Shutdown. Now I have to do it manually. What
do I have to do to make it turn off automaticly again?
Thanks in advance.

First Question:

1. Go to the root of your C: drive and open up the Boot.ini file in
notepad. (You will want to unhide all system files and hidden files first)
2. Under [Operating Systems] edit out the failed installation

Second Question:

You are probably not running with an ACPI HAL. This means that Windows
2000 is running off of a Standard PC HAL. To change your HAL, you can go
to Device Manger and specify a different HAL (Under COMPUTER). If you
specify a ACPI HAL and your hardware/BIOS is not compatible, you may have a
lot of other issues after doing this. Also, you cannot go from an ACPI HAL
to a Standard PC HAL without creating a lot if problems. It is perfectly
fine to go from Standard HAL to ACPI HAL (Windows 2000 ONLY!).
