I got a second hard drive and used Norton ghost to clone my old drive with
XP Pro and many prorgams on it to the new one. However I still can only
boot from the old drive, I thought I would get a menu at start up asking to
pick where to boot from.
Can I make the the new drive with the cloned system bootable?

If you'd like to be able to boot to either drive (dual boot) you can install
something like System Commander (not free but cheap) which will give you a
boot menu. Partition Magic 8 comes with a boot manager too.

I don't know of a way to get XP's boot menu without reinstalling onto one of
the drives. Perhaps someone else can assist if that's what you'd like.

You can only have one Active boot partition at a time, any other will be
Hidden.
When you ghost a drive, it only means you have a backup. It must be restored
in order to work..
Your best bet would be to acquire a 3rd party partition manager such as
BootIt NG, or Partition Magic.
You can create or change partitions on the fly without losing any programs
already installed.
You can also create bootable mirror images of the operating system, to copy
onto a disk in case of a failure.

I don't actually need dual boots. I just wanted to find a quick way to move
the system and all programs I got to a new faster hard drive. Otherwise I'd
have a lot of work to reinstall every single piece.
I now have my old drive exactly replicated onto my new drive. Will I be able
to move the bootable partition onto the new drive with Partition Magic so
the system and all prorams would work there?

I'm not sure what is cable select capabilities...yes, my hard drives are on
the same IDE connector. I tried to set my new drive as the 1st boot from
BIOS but it didn't help it sitll boots from the old one.
