Bootable Repair CD

I have a PC with Windows XP that after rebooting shows the Win XP logo and
then reboots and so on.... This behavior started after an accidental shut
down of the
PC while the OS was performing some tasks (cannot remember what).

Couple of questions:

Can I create a bootable CD that will allow me to boot into DOS?

If so how do I go about it and what would be the quickest way to repair the
OS.

Any links to instructions, software, etc. much appreciated.

Thanks

Joaquin

you can boot with the
windows setup cd, then
go into recovery console.

at the c prompt you can
run chkdsk.

*** Yes. You can download a Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com,
*** then turn it into a bootable CD. However, since you now run DOS,
*** you won't see anything on your hard disk (unless it uses FAT32
*** partitions.

*** Boot the machine with your WinXP CD, then select Repair
*** when prompted.

*** A better way might be to boot into "Last known good configuration"
*** or "Safe Mode". Both modes are accessible by repeatedly
*** pressing F8 during the boot phase.
