Boot Warning Message

On boot up, I'm getting a Text Warning Message (while still in the DOS
environment) that says my Harddrive may fail. It says to backup my date on
my slave drive due to failure that may happen. Then I have to press F1 to
continue and boot.

So I ran Norton Disk Doctor that found nothing. I've defraged everything
with no issues.
How do I know that this message is correct?
What do I do?

Added information from the Event Viewer:
********
The server service was unable to recreate the share Test Dev because the
directory J:\Image\Test Dev no longer exists.
********
Not sure if this means anything. Once I boot, I can go to this drive with
no issues.
Thanks

It's the drive S.M.A.R.T. system informing you that trouble is heading
your way. Use the drive manufacturers diagnostic software. Get it from
their website.

Hi,

I agree with Bob that I think you should backup the important data to avoid
any potential loss

I'm doing that now.
I don't suppose there's any idea approx how long it takes for a real problem
to occur?

It's in the same category as "my engine is making a funny noise". Could
go for months, could blow up before you finish backing up the data.

I replaced the drive with another one that I had laying around.
The tests, by the boot disk is not very descriptive other than the
controller ATA test Failed. All partitions/sectors on the disk are good. I
took the bad drive and put it in my test computer (computer that I test
different software on before loading to my main computer). On that
computer, I don't get any warnings at all. Seems to run fine. I guess it's
okay for testing as long as I don't fill it up with critical items that
could be lost... when/if it fails.
