In windows xp, when it first boots up it goes to a screen that asks to press
f to format, or q to quit or another letter for another choice, question is
how to get rid of this screen and do a normal boot process. Have tried a
restore and to no avail, has been in the "msconfig" to look at the boot ini,
but not sure what to change.
Running windows xp, with an HP with dual core processor, computer was one of
the last ones before vista. Im trying to help a friend. Any ideas or advice
would be greatly appreciated

Wrong place to look.

Scan the system for malware since he/she failed telling you what installation
had been performed prior to the first encounter of this problem.

Check here http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...9-5030801.html

From the Recovery Console and just use the following command

bootcfg /rebuild
