I am having the same problem with an ACER, nearly identically, which is that
booting Windows XP hangs for a very long time with the ACER splash screen and
does not if I cut power and immediately reboot, or will just fail to boot
entirely the first time but not the second.
I also occasionally get a hardware related failure to start to boot lately,
which requires that I cut the power long enough to reset after which time the
computer boots as per above.
There are no error messages coming up at all, so to date I have no
information about what is causing this.
