BOOT Problem

A friend built me a PC with Windows XP Pro as the OS
(Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz). It has gone into a loop on
start up. It indicates that the machine was not shut
down properly or new hard ware has been added (neither
was the case) and request that one chooses Normal start
up mode, last known start up that worked etc.
Irrespective of what one chooses, it goes into the same
sequences coming back to the questions. The default is
Normal Start up Mode and it tries to start up Windows XP
in this mode every 30 seconds if you do not choose an
option. I tried getting into the BIOS and booting from
the CD (with WIndows XP) but it does not recognize the
CD/DVD drive. I get to the point where it is starting
with Flash Start UP but that goes into a loop and it
beeps every 10 seconds or so but no progress on the
screen.

Any suggestions as to what the problem is and options to
solve it. It happened before and all the software was
reloaded. It worked well for about 6 weeks.

Difficult to say. I would get the latest BIOS and all fresh
drivers, then try again.

But if you cannot boot from the CD, then the hardware is
defective anyway. This has nothing to do with Windows.

I would recommend checking all the connections on the motherboard like IDE
controllers, CD/DVD controller as a basic checkup. I guess some hardware
component is loose or may be conflicting.
if possible ask any support engineer and get it reassembled. Even then if
you face the same problem the kindly look out for the appropriate BIOS
update.

All the best
