Boot Manager offers choices that no longer exist

I have a Delll XPS with XP Pro SP3 installed. I recently installed Roxio Back
On Track but uninstalled it because it did not work for me and I did not like
that it replaced Windows System Restore with theirs. The uninstall was per
Roxio clean uninstall instructions, but every time I boot it offers Roxio as
a bootup choice.

My boot.ini is:
[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"

How can I get rid of the choice? Will fixmbr do it, or should I even try.

Thanks

Please repost the contents of your boot.ini file as I only see the entry for
Windows XP. Or do you mean you prefer not see the bootmgr at all? If this
is the case, start msconfig from the run prompt and edit your choices there.

Depends how this boot manager works. Some have pointer in the mbr for
partition boot location.. Followed by its own software in one of those
partitions as one example. In this case, the boot manager boots up,
followed by a choice of what OS to boot from and what partition and so
forth.

Other versions may pre-empt the boot files of the residing operating system
only, and present their own boot menu, and present the operating system
itself as a potential for booting. The mbr is not modified, only the
partition boot record where the original OS boot files reside.

In either case, the boot.ini file is not modified for XP.

Here's something you can:

- Right click on My Computer.
- Choose Properties.
- Click Advanced.
- Choose the edit button under 'Startup and Recovery.'
- Make sure your OS of choice is the DEFAULT OS.
- Un-check the box next to time to display list of operating systems.

Now when you reboot XP, you shouldn't get any boot options. If you want to
go to a different OS just come back to the properties screen above and
re-check the box in step 6. Hope this helps!
