This site can show Ranish Partition Manager alongside commercial apps:

http://www.boot-manager.de/english/overview.html

Also worth reading is the Criteria for Good BootManagers:

The overview don`t show: GAG, XOsl and at last Grub ( which is in my
opinion the best bootmanager).
The Ranish partition-manager can only boot from primary partitions, so
the limitations is 4 OS !! and therefor ranish could`t boot from log.
partitions. so Ranish wasn`t disigned for modern OS like LInux, Beos
etc.

What's wrong with XOSL. It looks like a nice Graphical Boot Manager with
all the bells and whistles!

Read their FAQ for an explanation.

I read their FAQ - they say: " XOSL is not a boot manager of the
second level". Their explanation of "second level" is the ability to
boot more than one OS:
====================================================
We estimate the number of bootmanagers for this second level at
approx. 20 to 30 worldwide.

Many of them have a low function scope. We only consider bootmanagers
meeting at least the following criteria:

The bootmanager has to be installable in the second level.
The bootmanager must be able to boot all operating systems.
It has to be possible to setup the bootmanager under DOS or Windows.
The bootmanager has to be uninstallable. (This does not always mean an
automatic uninstall feature.)
It has to be possible to hide partitions.
==========================================================
From the XOSL site:
XOSL is known to support
BeOS
MS-DOS
FreeDOS
Linux (with Lilo)
Solaris
VxWorks 5.x
Windows 95/98/Me
Windows NT/2000
....and others...

So I don't know what this comparison site means by their comment.
