I reformatted my hd last night, restored software and installed service pack
2 then all of the security patches etc. after that. Up until the last couple
updates everything was fine but after the last few "high priority updates" I
have trouble booting.
It locks up immediately on the first screen and the keyboard lights keep
blinking.
I have to hold down the power button and try restarting that way a bunch of
times until it boots up normally. It goes like this every time I restart.

Since you do actually get windows to start, you can use the Add/Remove app to
remove the last few updates. Be sure the Add/Remove dialog has a checkmark in
'show updates' (at the top)
