I have a computer where the boot.ini file keeps disappearing. I
replaced the boot.ini file last week, checked for viruses, ad ware,
spy ware, Windows Update, all clean. The file attributes are set to
read only, system, hidden. The file disappeared again yesterday.
Does anyone have a clue? New virus? Thanks in advance for the help,

Paul

What are you using for AV and spyware/malware detection?

On this computer, both AdAware SE and SpyBot S&D and Norton AV.

Some type os spyware is still afecting this PC. You need to
completely check the system with additional utilities, preferablity in
Safe Mode.

If you still have this problem, you will need to install HiJackThis
and join a HJT forum (for the results list "analysis.") Several
advanced HJT users will be able to guide you in a preoper cleaning of
this PC.

That's a decent though not excellent collection of tools. I'd suggest being
certain is updated once more (you didn't mention updating them) and
re-running each from Safe Mode. Run them one at a time so they don't
collide and try to detect each other.

If no luck there, I'd suggest next downloading HiJackThis and posting a log
on an acceptable web site for evaluation. The download pkg contains all
sorts of places where you can post the log. Do NOT post it here!

Here's one known safe link to download HJT, though you don't have to take my
word for it; if you have a favorite site that carries it, that's great as
long as it's this rev 1.9 or later, you'll be fine:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

I see a TrendMicro HJT with a later version 2.x but am not recommending it
only because MajorGeeks doesn't seem to be pushing it & I'm too lazy to look
up why<g>.
