For the past 5 days, if my computer has been sitting idle
for several hours, a message appears on the monitor that
says: Boot Failure Insert BOOT diskette in A: Press any
key when ready
I don't have a BOOT diskette, however I can turn the
computer off and back on again and it runs just fine. I
can get into everything, etc. But I lose anything that
was running in the background (games in "pause") etc. I
have taken my computer in to get it fixed- and they can't
find anything wrong. They say I have no viruses, the
hard drive is fine, etc. They suggested unplugging the
printer. I did that, message still came up. I tried
unplugging the computer from the surge protector directly
into a wall outlet (thinking maybe something was wrong
with the surge protector) and after leaving the computer
for several hours, the message came back up. Help!!!

Have you disabled standby. If you open Power options in
the control panel you might try setting the following
options:
Power Schemes tab:
Always On

Settings for Always On power scheme
Turn off monitor: After 20 minutes
Turn off hard disks: Never
System standby: Never
System hibernates: Never

Another problem could be your CPU fan?
