Today in the middle of reading email my laptop knocked out and the following
message appeared: "Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\AppPatch\drvmain.sdb
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
I do not have the original Setup CD-ROM and, even if I did, my CD-ROM drive
doesn't work. I don't want to lose my data. Invoking Safe mode (or any of the
other options available via F8) brings me back to this same message.
I'm wondering if downloading/installling XP Professional's "boot from floppy
disc setup files" would address this problem. Thank you
