Boot Error after installing XP Service Pack 2

Hope someone may be able to help.

For the second time now I have downloaded XP service Pack 2 via
windows update and ran the installation process without any problems.
My problem begins when I hit the button to "Restart" my pc.

When I restart the system at the conclusion of the install process,
the pc freezes during the "Windows XP ..." loading Screen. I then try
to boot in Safe Mode and again each time it freezes, but this time it
stops while loading "AGP400.SYS".

I have tried to manually uninstall SP2 via command line and also
repair via CD boot but neither worked.

Basic PC config is: P4 2.8, 1gb RAM, 2 x 120GB SATA, Radeon 9200 128MB
Video.

Any ideas? Also, What does "agp400.sys" do? Can it be disabled?
Ramifications of doing so?

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

Mick

OMG!
I had EXACTLY the same problem last night. The worst thing is, now I
can’t even re-install! (the on-screen graphics get corrupted half-way
through the install...and I even formatted the HD!!)

If anyone can help I would REALLY appreciate it!

thanks,

My wife’s laptop is also getting this (although it’s agp440.sys rather
than 400). Can’t boot it up at all! And she’s very cranky about
it...HELP!

It’s XP Pro but without the Service Pack

I was eventually able to fix it by:

1) Installing another video card
2) Re-installing everything again EXCEPT SP2
3) Installing my old video card (the original one)
4) Downloading the latest drivers for the card...

BTW, I was able to disable the agp400.sys thing and boot up in safe
mode.
I assume you will be able to then download the latest videodrivers.
