Has anyone heard of a freeware data base which is designed for
organizing a rather large personal library?

Homebase - Freeware - ABE booksellers have access to ISBN lookup -
others do not . . . not sure what the upper limit is but I *very* much
doubt that will be a problem . . .

http://www.abebooks.com
http://www.abebooks.com/docs/homebase/main.shtml

v 2.3 8.94 MB (English, German, French)

Easy to use. IMO Homebase is your best bet - there are other options -
come back if you want info. FWIW - I catalog my books in a spreadsheet -
I like full control

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm downloading Homebase right now. I have
been using a large table in Open Office. I considered the spread sheet,
but feared losing data if I made a mistake, like sorting one column and
not the rest!

Hi Avraham,

we all *should* back-up early, back-up often. (backups are easy in HB)

If you have a lot of info in your Open Office table it may be possible
to import it into HomeBase.

I was playing around with importing not too long ago -> used a back-up
file to get new data into HB. This was in the version just before the
latest - I have the latest HB downloaded - haven't installed it yet -
seem to remember there's a better way in the latest version.

Anyway . . . if you *do* have a lot of data in your table and *don't*
see an easy way to import it - I'll be happy to help if I can.
