Having uninstalled the onboard video card so I could install a better video
card, every time I start up, windows wants to run the hardware install
wizard to reinstall the on board card. If I do that , the new card doesn't
work. How can I stop the wizard from starting up?

Did you disable the onboard vga in your BIOS?

If the device is still enabled in the system BIOS, Windows is going to
detect it and try to install it. Have you tried letting it install, but then
just disabling it in Device Manager?

Thanks Tim, I've tried that.
What I couldn't work out was how to disable it in the bios. The bios I've
got is Award Software International Inc Version 6.00 PG. Any help welcome.

You'll need to disable the on-board card. First place to check is the
BIOS; it's likely be listed under "Integrated Peripherals" or a
similar option within the menu.

Alternatively you may have to open the case again and set a jumper on
the motherboard.

Press "Del" to enter BIOS setup on boot up. Onboard VGA "Enable or Disable" usually found under the "Advanced Chip Set Features" or "Advanced" sub menu on BIOS setup menu depending on manufactuer of motherboard. The BIOS program will list the keystrokes you will need to do to navigate within the BIOS setup menu, change settings, and then save them.

Go into the motherboard's BIOS and disable the on-board video
adapter. Then Win2K won't detect it.
