Blurred and incorrect color screen

My 2-yr old HP laptop has a blurred and incorrect color (greenish) screen
from time to time. It seems when I boot up the Windows, it works fine but
after an hour or so the problem appears. If I switch off and use it next
day, it works fine but repeat the problem after 1 hour. Can someone give me
a guidance if the issue comes from hardware or software before I send to
repair centre.

Thanks,

Scott

Sounds like a heat issue in the laptop. Software wouldn't do it.

Talk to HP and see what they'll do for you. It could be, even if
the original warranty has expired, they'll help you. Using a search
engine, search using the model number of your computer, to see if
other people are suffering from the same symptoms, and then
see what response they got from HP.

I answered your original post about this in xp.general
on Oct 18, but here it is again.

This sounds like an overheating problem. The most common
cause of overheating in laptops is internal dust build up. You
could try spraying canned compressed air through the cooling
vents, and fan openings. If that doesn't work, the bottom cover
will have to be removed. If you have an extended warranty,
having it done by HP would be the best thing. If not, you could
take it to a local shop that repairs laptops.

If you want to remove the cover yourself, HP usually has the
service manuals on its webside, that show the disassembly
sequence. You may have to do some digging to find it. I've
printed off several hundred pages of PDF manuals for my HP
laptop.

You'll want to consider your warranty options. This isn't likely to be
software, it's possibly a display unit issue, and unfortunately, the display
is probably the single most expensive component on a laptop.

Since you purchased yours, display prices have dropped, but the replacement
unit for your system may be hundreds of dollars.

Get estimates first, as you may decide that a new model is worthwhile from a
cost perspective.

I agree that given the sequence of events you describe, heat could be an
isssue. Try using a cooling pad under the laptop and yes, be sure the
vents are unobstructed. Does this alter anything? Again, if the problem
is that heat has damaged chips, a replacement board is often required, and
that can also be expensive.
