I hope I'm stating this correctly. I use a usb dongle to communicate between
the desktop and a motorola phone to download pictures and ringtones. I have
many usb ports on the PC however if I unplug the dongle and plug it back in
to another port it shows up as a network device with another # after it such
as #2, #3, or #4 and so on in the DEVICE MANAGER. Then it dosen't seem to
work. Is there a fix for this possibly in the registry? The modem being the
phone also shows up with a # 2, #3, or #4 also after the description. I use
Windows XP SP2. When I click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon neither is
listed.Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

you cannot change this by editting the registry. when you move it from port
to port, it appears as a new device to windows. the fact taht it doesn't
work anymore is a function of who wrote the driver. do you know whose
driver controls the bluetooth usb dongle?

go ask BlueSoliel why they don't handle your scenario of plugging it into a
different port
