Help if you can. I have just built a new PC and I am trying to install
all my existing hardware from my old PC. I have a NEW ASUS A8N-SLI
Delux MB with AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4400 CPU and 2gig CORSAIR 400mhz
memory onboard.
I started to load the Windows XP with just an old DVD-ROM Drive
(Toshiba I think) and then proceeded to download all updates, service
pack 2 etc.
The machine is running fine now. When I power down to then attach my
BENQ 1620 DVD rewriter the machine will not boot. I get a blue screen
with the standard error message. I have tried various cable
configurations and it just wont work.
What am I doing wrong. The drive is fine on my old P4 board.
Help anyone??!!?!? and Thank you very much.

There is no such animal as the "blue screen with the standard error
message."

There are tens of thousands (at least) of different possible error
messages that can appear on a blue screen and the only possible way we
can help you with your specific error is if you provide us with the
complete verbatim text of the message on the screen including any and
all error codes, parameter values, and file or module names that are
mentioned.

Good luck
