I have a funny feeling the answer to this question will have to do with that
thing you call a firewire. I am assuming I don't have one. (I have no idea
what it is.) But I will go on to be sure anyway...
I record a video on my sony digital handycam. When I try to use MM2.1, I
click capture movie. The timer on the computer screen is going, but my
camera doesn't seem to be. I stop the capture and save the movie. But there
is nothing but a blue screen. No video/movie or sound. However, when I keep
my camera in record mode, you can see on the computer what my camera sees.
You know, live video, not recorded. So my question is, why, after I go
through the capture process, is there no movie? I can click play and
everything, but all there is is a blue screen.

I have tried using the software that came with the camera, Picture Package
1.5, but it is not compatable with my philips DVD+-RW. That claims there is
no cd in the drive when in fact there is. Can anyone of you fabulous
computer smarties help me out?

Thanks!
Julie

ALSO....
I have spent hours trying to figure this out and I found something that said
this about firewire, I copied and pasted it...

If you are not sure if your machine has firewire installed, - open Device
Manager, - check for "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller" - (usually just below
the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" entry) - if you open that entry, it should
read "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" or words to that effect.
There should be no yellow exclamation marks against this entry, if there is,
it usually means that the drivers are not installed.

Well I do have that. Does that mean I already have a firewire? Why is
there no video once captured?

If you have that device installed then it means you have a firewire port on
your computer.
Now you need to purchase an IEEE1394 firewire cable to connect from your
camera to your computer instead of the USB connection I presume you are
using now.
Another question though since some of what you said is a bit confusing.
If you rewind the tape in the camera and play it with the camera do you see
the video you shot ON the camera?

Hi Wojo and thanks for trying to help me. The firewire worked perfect but it
was my camera that ended up being the ultimate problem. It didn't work w/
Hi8 tapes which is what all my old tapes are. After going back and forth
about buying a dazzle 80 or 90 and trying everything Papa John and Blaine
suggested at the other Movie Maker site, I ended up returning my camcorder
and getting the TRV480 Sony Handycam that does everything I need. So thank
you for your input, but I can finally move on..... to my next problem! I
let you know when I get there!

Thanks again!
Julie
