One approach is to reduce your machine to a minimum
configuration. Go into the BIOS and disable all the
extras like the sound card, network card etc. Leave in
just one stick of memory...have the most simple
configuration that will work. Then install Windows XP on
to a clean hard disk. This should now load OK. Now add
in each 'extra', one thing at a time. You should find out
the item that is causing the problem. When you do, try to
find a certificated driver from the manufactures or
motherboard web site.
It has been my experience that XP is much happier on a
clean install, rather than an upgrade from an earlier
Windows version
