I have XP Pro SP2 running. It's been slowing down recently, and I
decided to do a parallel install.

When iI boot from the XP install cd, all the setup drivers load - then
I get a blue screen with a message to the effect "install encountered
a problem. Check your hard drive for viruses, use fdisk/f and
restart"., (not a direct quote).

I've run virus and spyware checks - nothing shown. But the machine
will simply not boot from the xp setup cd.

Any ideas please?

Use the hd manufacturers checking utility, available from their site
