Got an updated driver CD for my Diamond modem card. Comp simply would not
accept driver for existing modem, but insisted on installing a generic
fax/modem from somewhere. As long as this fax/modem is installed (I guess),
on boot I get a blue screen error page, which reads basically "Problem
detected - windows shut down to prevent damage . . . . Technical errors of
the form 0x0000000 etc., etc. Dumping of physical memory to disk . . ."
Runs up to about 100 then reboots to windows and repeats over and over.

Have been able to permanently uninstall the fax/modem; it reappears on its
own. Apparently, whenever it is installed is when I get the blue screen
bit.

I was able to get into control panel/modem and get it deleted, then finally
got the correct modem installed, although it was not functional.
The Help suggestion here was to uninstall the (correct) modem, then
reinstall via add new hardware. Unable to reinstall before it goes back to
the blue screen.

Have been in and out of Safe Mode numerous times, but have yet to get the
right combination.

I would appreciate any thoughts I how to 1) get out of the loop I am
apparently in? 2) where the mysterious generic fax/modem my comp seems to
like so well is coming from? 3) what is the location of this physical dump
file? and 4) what will it do for me??

As you can see - I'm a little confused

Did all the following - very carefully. No joy. My mysterious generic fax
/modem has also reappeared. Could this have something to do with comm
ports?

have you tried pointing to the generic faxmodem and updating the drivers to
the new drivers?
Please list each step you took in order.
sometimes PNP hardware is identified as generic and you have to manually
upgrade the drivers, to make it current.
if all else fails, take the diamond modem back and get one that's more main
stream, ie 3com or some other major brand name.

make sure your drivers files contain an INF file that describes the
equipment to windows.
