Hi, I keep getting a blue screen for the past couple of weeks and have no
idea why. I have XP on my computer; have not installed any new hardware in
months. Only thing that has changed is a newer version of Norton antivirus.
Un-installed and re-installed Symantec yesterday, but got a beautiful blue
screen on start-up this morning. Error message is:
"After you install a new hardware device or new software, Windows XP may
continuously restart, or you may receive an error message on a blue screen

I have gone through the article and taken the various steps but it hasn't
helped and I still don't know which driver causes the problem.
Can anyone help, please?

Use System Restore to restore to a point before all this started and see if
that resolves the problem.

Hi Colin,,
I have tried System Restore but keep getting the problem.
I've managed to find out what the error message says on the blue screen:
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
Do you have any idea what I can do about it?

1. Uninstall Norton.
2. Then visit the Symantec web site, download their sooper-sekret Norton
removal tool. Use the tool to scrub remnants of Norton.
3. Manually visit the registry for any residual mentions of Norton or
Symantec.
4. Remove any folders concerned with Norton.

What we're trying to do here is remove Norton from the list of possible
culprits.

If, after removing Norton (which is a good idea by itself), the problem
disappears, you can add back a different AV tool. There are several free
ones (AVG and Avast come to mind).

Reseat your video card (unless it is integrated video) and your memory
cards. While you are in the machine clean the dust from the fans and vents.
