Blue Screen when booting up - no real error given

I have a Gateway computer that when I boot up it starts the Windows XP load
screen. And then I get a stop 0x0000007E.

It boots up in safe mode, but I don't know where to begin to debug the
problem.

My restore disk from Gateway does not work. My warentee is expired so to go
to them for help will cost.

I went to a restore point of yesterday, but that didn't work.

What do I try now?

You need to post a more complete copy of the Stop Error report,

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure.
Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Disconnect all peripherals except keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Background information on Stop Error message:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms795746.aspx

0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
A system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not
catch. There are numerous individual causes for this problem, including
hardware incompatibility, a faulty device driver or system service, or
some software issues. Check Event Viewer (EventVwr.msc) for additional
information.

Hi Charlene,

Try updating your drivers. if problem still persist, try pops in your
installation CD and run recovery console.
