When will the prices for Blu-ray disk writers come down?
Should I stay with my regular dvd player/writer?

My guess is about 2 years to get under 200 dollars and maybe 3 or 4 for
under 100.
Look at HDTV's, they have been out for awhile and are still expensive but
they have come down in price.

Like DVD writers and CD writers before them, they will come down. However,
I'm not so sure they will come down at the same sort of speed as the take up
of Blu-Ray seems to be somewhat slower than the take up of DVD. This is not
helped by the format war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Blu-Ray does seem to
be gaining ground at present, particularly as another film distributor (20th
Century Fox??) has just switched sides.

Microsoft are still actively pushing the HD-DVD format at present for 2
reasons.

1. The interactive part of HD-DVD is operated using Microsoft Code (iHD).

2. The interactive part of Blu-Ray is operated by a rival system (Java)

The prices have been declining over the last several months and will
continue to do so. DVD burners used to be over $1000, but now they
are about $30. Something similar will happen with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD
burners.

Also think about media. I can recall a blank Blu-Ray disc was $25 a
year or so ago, now they are about $15 each--a bit expensive. Today a
high quality blank DVD is about 25 cents. Makes sense to sit tight
for another year or so, unless you have a lot of extra money to spend
and want to be cool. There is also some risk of obsolescence,
probably greater with HD-DVD.

I am not whining. I just wanted to find out what others are thinking about
Blu-ray disk writers. I am thinking about building a new system and I
wanted to make sure that I do not buy a DVD writer only to find out the
Blu-ray writer is the same price a week later. Thanks for yours and others
remarks. I have learned a lot from members who post their questions and
answers here. I value what all of you have to say.
