On XP HE, Norton AV found this virus and could not repair file. Now is
asking to delete file, but I don't kow what shost.exe is. Is it safe to
delete? Is it something that has to be re-installed?
This is on a PC that I recently had to do a fresh install of XP.
Would appreciate help!!!!

Delete that file since it is a virus file.
One cannot repair a virus file.

Thanks, I did delete and scan found w other infected files:
system32\eraseme_30570.exe and eraseme_40385.exe, which I deleted. However,
summary of scan shows 3 infections found; 2 deleted and 1 left
infected....shost.exe infected with bloodhound.w32.1. remains.
What should I do now????

Thanks! I hit "delete" option and scan continued and found two more infected
files: Windows\system32\eraseme_30570.exe and eraseme_40385.exe. I chose
"delete" option for these as well.
Now, Summary shows 3 infected files; 2 files deleted; 1 file left infected.
The file that remains is windows\shost.exe infected with bloodhound.w32.1.
Afraid to continue....what do I do now?

Delete the file and all files in quarantine.
The "shost.exe" file is an alien file and not
a Windows XP system file.

File not in quarantine; Norton AV says unable to access file. How else can I
delete.
Now I keep getting a Norton pop up window advising of this security risk.
I cannot access anything via internet either. Now I'm getting NT
authority\System C:windows\system 32\Isass.exe System will shutdown with
status code 1073741819.
Also, whichever "search" mode I try, I get
www.ad-w-a-r-e.com/cgi-bin/PopupV3?ID=(9173AF81-33FR-DD53-6369-SC180D9FB523)type=normal
I close this right away because I don't know what it is.

This all started when I did a clean install of XP using the XP Home Edition
CD.
Computer came installed with ME. Should I use Emergency Recovery CD and
then use XP Upgrade? Will this resolve virus?

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
