Blocking websites by schedule

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to block certain websites from laptops using
Windows XP. I know you can do it via the hosts file somewhere in the
Windows dir tree. However, I want to be able to control this by
schedule! It needs to unblock at a certain time each day, weekdays...
at the weekend, all sites shall unblock.

Is it possible via standard Windows or do I need some software? Any
recommendations?

Using some router's functionality isn't working, as the laptops use
different Internet access methods...

TIA
Karsten

Hmm, Windows has a native time .....

Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC Go to Computer Configuration, Windows
Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options. In the right
pane, locate the entry for Network Security: Force logoff when logon hours
expire

Examples of setting the logon hours would be:

net user johnsw /time:M-F,08:00-17:00
net user johnsw /time:M-F,8am-5pm
net user marysl /time:M,4am-5pm;T,1pm-3pm;W-F,8:00-17:00

As for websites perhaps you could dabble with scheduled tasks and/or
startup-shutdown scripts, etc.

Good luck!

some routers have built-in parental controls, but the functionality
varies widely.
