Blocking a Specific Port

Hi:

I have a friend who has installed the USCG POMS program and cannot get it
to function because it apparently uses Port 1494 and we can determine that
this port is in the "Stealth Mode". However, we cannot and have not been
able to identify which application is causing this port 1494 to be placed in
the "Stealth Mode".

He has Norton SW2006 installed, as well as various spyware/malware
applications. Windows firewall has been turned off, NSW2006 disabled, as
well as other applications to no avail of opening port 1494 from the
"Stealth Mode". I even added it as an Exclusion to the Windows Firewall
list.

Does anyone know how I can determine which specific application is causing
this problem with Port 1494 and allow the POMS application to be functional?

I apologize if this is the wrong Newsgroup for this multiple posting.

Thanks in advance....

Does Norton Has a Firewall?, or is it an Anti-Virus without Firewall?.
If you have Norton with Firewall you don't need Windows Firewall Turned ON
at all and You can assign the exception to the Port for Outbound Traffics
only in the Norton Firewall.
Open the Norton Control panel and you will see the Firewall and from there
start to assign the Game exceptions.

What are you using to decide the port is in "Stealth Mode".

If it is a website and you have no software firewalls turned on then my
guess is the router/modem/whatever you connect to the internet with is
doing the blocking.

Hi:

I appreciate all the help, but finally resolved the issue by reinstalling
all software and now the port problem has gone away.

Thanks

Good you sorted it out, thanks for the feedback.
But if you have Norton complete security suite you don't need windows
Firewall ON at all let Norton handle the Internet security fro you, also if
you enabled Windows firewall and Norton they will conflict and you have a
mystery issue like this.
HTH.
