On a fresh install of Office 2003 Pro--while configuring
Outlook, I recieve an error message "Unable to open your
default e-mail folders" & get no further. (Other Office
programs function.)
Microsoft's site is NO help, it denies my product ID is
valid, only info found on www (& Microsoft's site) with
this problem refers to Office 97, not Office 2003.
Would apppreciate any help.

Recreate your mailprofile;
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles...
