I have a user who added a new Microsoft keyboard and changed her background
Theme, both of which may be co-incidental. Now the cursor is a large black
block, rather than a vertical line. This appears in all areas where I am
allowed to type, like this message box here. Any thoughts on where this is
managed and how we get it back to being a vertical bar?

Cursors are normally associated with the Theme selected. You can try using
the "Themes" icon in control panel if other than delivered themes have been
installed, or the "Mouse" icon in control panel sometimes allows you to
change what icons are used for the cursor.

Two places to look - one would be in Control Panel> Cursors and reset the
standard cursor theme.

The other place (and probably where the problem is so try this first), is
in Control Panel> Accessibility Options. On the Display page, move the
slider for the cursor width all the way to the left.
