Blinking Or Resetting Icons

Hi:

Does anyone have an answer as to how to stop desktop icons from blinking
or resetting? Sometimes when I open or close a screen some of my icons will
revert back to a generic icon and then after a few seconds or so reset back
to the correct icon.

It more of an annoyance than anything to have to wait for a varying number
of them to reset.

I have tried changing my monitor screen refresh rate, but that has not
prevented the above problem.

Thanks,

ColTom2

That effect could indicate a driver issue. What video hardware does the
computer have ? ( Chipset based or an AGP/PCIexpress card ). Unless
the system is heavily loaded the screen refresh should not be perceptible
to the user.
One commonly overlooked item is the default monitor driver. Most PCs
get by with a generic "Plug-&-Play" driver. It helps to override that with
a vendor/model specific driver that more closely describes the monitor's
capabilities.

See Kelly's Korner (line 121): http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Increasing the size of your Icon cache

Also TechRepublic for more detail:

This value is set to 8096 on my PC.

Hi:

Thanks for all the replies!

JS I have ran Kelly's Korner Line 121 and set my value at 2000. If this
doesn't work, which by the way seems to be working, then I'll give Elmo's
response a try.

Thanks again....

You're welcome.
The more icons that are on your desktop the large the
value need to be. My desktop looks like an icon mine
field which is why I use 8096 on my PC.
