Blinking Monitor

Hi everyone,

My rig is a Dell 4600i nVidia GeForce FX200 display
Adapter. the trouble is i beleive might be the card itself,

i checked the driver for this display card which is correct , how can i be
sure that its the card itself , i did try another monitor

the same thing was happening , the screen kept flicking & blinking. I tried
it on Google earth a good test somewhat ,it was hopeless

it just seized up. Any thoughts please would be grateful.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest driver from NVIDIA?
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Also check that the display card is not loose and is firmly seated in the
connector.
It might help if (with the PC power off) that you remove and reinsert the
display card.

Hi , JS thank you for your suggestion, i have checked and removed card an
put back. and now downloaded lastest driver, lastest release
5 days old it didn't work for me .My problem is not over.

i am using a dual boot system xp pro & xp home on separate drives, would
i need to install the driver on both drives for each system?.

It certainly sounds like a defective graphics/video card but it's possible
it could be something else.

In the meantime...

If I'm not mistaken doesn't your Dell PC come with integrated video? If that
is so, why don't you remove your present NVIDIA graphics card and use the
system's integrated video capability? Check your User's Guide to determine
the correct BIOS setting for utilizing the system's integrated video
capability in case the system doesn't simply default to that setting
(although it probably will).

Obviously if there's no further monitor screen flickering problem that would
indicate a defective video card.

Hi Anna ,JL ,everyone
I am currently on a reinstall, just downloading 80 odd updates. i
tried all ways to avoid reinstalling, even from safe mode system restore,
safe mode with networking, all failed. reference to Anna I did note
the integrated graphics card on the system which had been stopped off.
I bought this unit second hand 2.5 years old then back last November for
its reasonable spec .P4 3G CPU. Sata drive 80g , 128mb nVidia FX200 put
another drive in plus tv card. the system passed the test for running Vista
ULTIMATE apart for some software changes. As i am writing this message i
keep glancing across to the other comp which looks to be quite stable at
the moment. also did notice 3 hardware updates , guess what nVidia being 1
dated 2003, one there for ethernet card. and tv card .If i fail to acheive
my goal i will post further here.

Do not use the Video Drivers updates listed on Microsoft's Windows Update
site as they have been known to cause problems.
Always use drivers from the manufacture's web site.

My last final post on the subject.
I 've solved it now, it was driver related , i must have tried out 4 to 5
different drivers between msn,dell, and nvidia.
slept on it , had a day out with the family yesterday. back to the point .in
July's issue of PC Answers was a package from nVidia 93.71
which is basically a graphic manager setup program for different cards . I
did notice it on nvidia website but was'nt to sure about it.
