Blank windows/Print failures/Search failures

Sometime recently (I am suspicious that it was with the June patches)
Internet Explorer 6 started acting strangely.
-When I try to open up Help > About Internet Explorer I get a blank window
displayed, i.e. the version number and copyright information do not show, and
there is no title in the top border of the window.
-When I try to print, it acts as if I had not done anything.
-When I try to search, the search pane comes up fine, and I can enter my
search term, but when I click the Search button that goes away and the pane
shows "Loading search settings...", and then just sits there looking stupid.
-If in the search pane I click on Customize, I get a window displayed where
the data just flashes and then the window is blank without a title, and when
I click on the Close button in the top right corner of that window it then
shows the title "Customize Search Settings", two radio buttons with
descriptions, the message "Loading search settings...", and three buttons
(OK, Cancel, Reset). Using either of the radio buttons or the OK or Reset
buttons gets me back the blank titleless window. The Close button closes the
window, as does clicking a second time on the Close button in the top right
corner.
-History works as it should, where I expected it to give me wierd failure
like search.
-Find on this page (either Cntrl-F, or Edit > Find on this Page) also
results in a blank, titleless window, but clicking on the Close button in the
top right corner just closes it.

There may be other wierdness that I have not yet noticed!

I am running Windows Xp Professional SP3 patched to date on a Pentium 4 2Ghz
512 MB Ram, and Internet Explorer 6, also patched to date. I use AVG
antivirus which I update daily, Ad-Aware which I update at least weekly,
Windows firewall, and have a router that also acts as a firewall.

Following KB318378 I tried repairing IE by using the System File Checker,
and then by reinstalling using ie.exe. There was not improvement!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ian

Hello,

Try running IE with add-ons disabled

Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > UNCHECK "Enable
third-party browser extensions" > OK

Run IE6 now.

If it works now, one of your add-ons is causing the problem. Start Internet
Explorer as normal, Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons.

Disable all the add-ons. Enable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Options.

Restart your browser and enable the add-ons one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already tried disabling third party
add-ons and restatring, and it made no difference.

Thanks Robert. I did have MSIA installed, have removed it, and now printing,
Help>About, and Organize Favorites work.
The bad news is that I still have problems with Search, and with Customize
Search. But I will work on those!
