Help I'm wanting to do a system Rstore but every time i try to open it,
either from the task bar or in the Windows folder a blank window appears I
was wanting to unistall the MSN program and that would'nt work, so thinking
I'd use sysrstore to go back to the state before i installed it and that's
how i found out S/R wouldnt work. I'm using WXP Home SP2. I've even tried in
safe mode, still a blank screen appears. Can anyone help please?

Hi Again Ive done all that was said in both links that you suggested and
still it comes up blank even my "Help and Support" also if I try to put in
"services.msc" in the RUN dialog box an error comes up saying "MMC Cannot
open the file C:\Windows\system32\services.msc. This maybe because the file
does not exist, is not an MMC console or was created by later version of MMC.
This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the
file."
I do have rights as I am the administrator, the file does exist as I've look
in the directory for it and its there in the right place
<C:\Windows\system32\services.msc.>.
Also there is a Run time error dialog box pops up "Microsoft Visual C++
Runtime Libary Runtime Error C:\Programs Files\Common Files\symantec
shared\ccSvchst.exe."
My old computer broke down (Mother board) so I put my old hard drive in the
new computer as a slave, would this conflict with the new one? the jumpers
are correct. I did a full backup i.e. all of drive "C:" then I did a "Docs &
Settings" "Program Files" back up and a "system state backup file" of the new
comp and saved that on my external HD when I first got the comp: if I restore
it from the "system state backup file" because it has the registry in it,
will it fix this problem?
Sorry to go on but I'm really stumped and don't know what else do to
Thanks for your time and patience
Paddy

Hello,

The last resort you may want to try is Start > Run > SFC /SCANNOW > OK (you
may need the XP CD).

Finally, you can do a Repair Install:

If IE7 is installed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917964 and proceed to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341

If IE6 is installed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341

Cheers SWD,
For all your help, I did an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP
in the end as every other method I tried failed also I think I'll just stick
to IE6 as this is the second time that the comp: failed with IE7 installed I
will leave IE7 uninstalled. I got every thing back That went blank or would
not work (MSN, Search companion, Help & Support)
Thanks again. Regards Paddy.
