Blank screen on remote laptop after disconnecting from remote desk

I have a HP Compaq nc6400 laptop running Windows XP Professional Service Pack
2. I connect to this laptop (which remains docked with lid closed) from
another computer using Windows Remote Desktop. After I disconnect the remote
desktop from the other computer, if I come back to this laptop and open the
lid, the display stays off and never comes on. The laptop also will not
respond to mouse and keyboard input locally. However, this issue does not
happen if I left the laptop with the lid open, before I connect to it from
the other computer (through Remote Desktop, of course).

The laptop is still running - I can connect to it by remote desktop again
from another computer to resume the remote desktop session. But the display
remains blank and keyboard and mouse are unresponsive locally, unless I
reboot the laptop or hibernate and resume it.

I contacted HP Chat support and did a firmware upgrade, and display driver
and Windows update but to no avail. They think this is a Windows issue and
they can't resolve it.

Several people seem to have this issue on computers from several different
hardware manufacturers, and has been noticed for more than a year now. This
seems to be related to the issue described in the following links, and seems
like an ACPI or Power Management issue with the Remote Desktop Server. Please
help.

Open the laptop to the blank screen, and press ctrl-alt-delete. (Opens Task
Manager) The Users tab will allow you to 'logoff' and log on to any desired
profile. If you fail to see Dev Mgr on the first C-A-D, do it again, and
logon.

Still no response. The monitors stays off.

FYI, I was wrong in my original email. The keyboard responds (caps lock, num
lock and scroll lock lights turn on and off if I press those keys). So I
assume the touchpad responds too. It's only the screen that remains off.

Thanks,

Senthil.
