blank screen reboot

When recording from an external dvd player using svideo
connectors, as soon as I hit the start capturing button
the screen goes blank and a reboot is needed. I am using
pinnacle pctvrave card, kaser 305 agp 32 mb video card,
and standard dvd player with svideo out. Any help would
be great. I have tried a few things already. Change
direct x acceleration etc...I am thinking the only fix is
some better hardware.
