I have seen alot of post about this problem, but nothing that helps me
find out what is happening. When I boot up my xp box, after the splash
and before the login, my screen goes black and I get a flashing cursor
in the top left corner. I first noticed about 4 months ago, and it did
it the first 2 times when a CD was in the drive. After removing, it
worked great. About a month later, it would do it again, When I
finally got in, I would run ad ware and remove spyware and it would
work great. Now, it does it everytime no matter what. If it sits for
4-5 minutes on the black screen, it will finally boot. But, it drags
and hangs alot for the first 5 minutes, then it runs good again.
What is the puter doing between the splash and the login prompt when
its hanging?
What things do I check?
