blank records in an XML data import into access 2003

's Computer Specifications

in access 2003, I "got external data" from a perfectly well formed XML file. it created tables properly and even imported as many rows as it should have, but all the fields in the database were blank. that's right, the tables had 1,100 entries, all blank. any thoughts?
