I note previous queries suggest this is a common problem - when dragging a
picture onto the timeline it disappears from the preview panel and won't
appear when playing either. Is there any solution or should I just buy
another product?

I am also having a problem with this. Please let me know if you figure out
how to fix it! I have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling service pack
2, but the same thing keeps happening: the blank preview.

Does this happen with any and all video clip types?
I ask because what you describe is common when trying to import MPG videos
so if you are working
with MPG's then try converting them to AVI or WMV and import the new file
into WMM.
