Hi,
after downloading and editing some footage from some DV tapes, I have created my first movie as a wmv file on my computer and that process has been fine.

However, I have one problem. Whenever I try to send the same completed movie (or any other movie - I have tried a couple of short clips also) back to my DV camera, it seems to work OK, but it never actually finishes.

It gets to around 80% or so complete, the camera goes to record mode, but the camera has a blank blue screen and no matter how long the clip is, it just keep recording absolutely nothing right to the end of the tape.

Then Movie Maker stops and claims (rightly) that the end of the tape was reached or that the camera had been turned off. So in other words, WMM is sending blank signals to my camcorder or the camcorder is not seeing the signal correctly?

Does anyone have any ideas?

The camera does have dv-in?
Have you tried with a dv-avi file instead of WMV?

thanks, I have just tried dv-avi also using a 10 second clip and the exact same thing happens. It gets to Recodring movie -> 100% -> 0 seconds remaining and the camera is still running with a blank screen/no audio throughout.

My specs are:
Windows XP SP1
WMM 2.0.3312.0
512 Mb RAM
1.7Ghz Intel Pentium 4
Sony DCR-PC105E PAL

And it does have the DV IN. In fact it even says DV IN when it starts to receive the movie, but it still stays blank/no audio.

Try using Windv, which is purly for importing and exporting movie files.

scroll down the page.
Defrag the drive before export.
Turn off all apps, inc internet/firewall/antivirus/screensaver etc.
Check another cable and cam in your pc, it could be afault with either.

The problem we have is so many different pieces of hardware and software are
put in to pc's that it's hard to find out what is causing the problem. If
you're not averse to re-installing, I would do that, make lots of system
restore points and do lots of testing as you add the drivers for different
pieces of kit and after each piece of software gets added.

Hi Graham,
I reloaded the OS last night (wow, the machine is fast now!) and tried the same amidst adding SP1 and critical patches, driver updates, etc and the whole process was completely unsuccessful. Looking back, I wish I had loaded windows 2000 first to see if that works. Anyway, my conclusion is that there is a hardware issue here and I believe I have found a fix, which I will attempt tonight. More details can be found here:

The problem seems to affect Dell Inspiron 2650 laptops when communicating via the PCMCIA interface.

I have the same Dell Inspiron and XP SP1, original BIOS,
same problem. Use Canon MC70MR that does have DV-in
(according to spec). Different firewire cardbus card
(don't know brand right now).
