I usually try to recreate the problem instead of suggesting things
that might work or things to try and can't see this one or make it
happen!
How about your other Taskbar icons - if you hover over them, do you
get the proper info or an empty box (is just the time part broken).
Are you able to double click the time display to launch the Date and
Time dialog (like in Control Panel) and is the info on all the tabs
correct?

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS):
http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if desired.
