Hi,

I have two computers that have IE6 as default browser. Start from past
few weeks I found one IE6 installation failed to display homepages
properly (regardless of dynamic or just .html pages). It often output
blank homepages and the fault symptom. Could anyone suggest what IE
settings I should check to find out problem cause ?

Remark: Version of problematic IE is
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519.

In case you have been bitten by the about:blank hijacker or some other
malware: did you run Adaware, Spybot and Windows Defender? Is your
virusscanner up to date?
You might also have a look at:
Your Internet Explorer home page is reset to "about:blank" and Windows
Defender unexpectedly quits in Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server
2003

Kind regards

Hi Lam,
What Error message or (Fault symptom) mean, try this and let us know:
1= Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you can Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next
post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.

Scan your computer with online scanner from here:
http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan
http://www.trendmicro.com
And also for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-...e_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

Also what connection you have established between the two computers
(wired,wireless, ICS)?.
Open a run command and type in:
ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]
You may have a damaged winsock try to fix it with this tool winsock fixer
from here:
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html
Reboot your machine and see if you can connect to the internet.

2= If all fail download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many
forums for analysis and troubleshooting:
When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.
Please perform one step (1,2) at a time and reboot to see if your issue
resolved.
HTH
Please let us know.
Regards,
nass

Run long ago.

No, explorer home page is still www.google.com
The described symptom didn't appear everytime. It only appeared with
some specific homepages i.e. There are still plenty homepages found
without such problem at all every time I visit them.

I found it strange that even I followed your suggestion, I need to
execute open IE properties, click General Tab, click on Delete
Cookies, Delete Files, Clear History, close IE then re-open IE again to
enable those "blank pages" could be displayed with content. I don't
konw why! Could you give some suggestions ?

Press Ctrl/F5 when a page doesn't open. If it works, that's gotta be
quicker than clearing the cache each time. Maybe increase the cache
