I have used Outlook express for years with no problem. But, over the last
few days I have been receiving blank e-mails, meaning there is no "To" or
"From" information. Has anyone else ever had this happen? If so, what does
it mean and how do I fix it. Thanks so much!! DS

Try the Outlook Express newsgroup. Outlook and Outlook Express are
different programs.

I have the same problem. Started last week. I saw Pepper's suggestion to use
Outlook Express news group. That program is entirely different and will not
work as well for some people. There has to be something else that is causing
this problem. AS DS stated.....I also used Outlook for years and now we both
have this problem. I had 29 of these e-mail today. They seem to increase day
by day. I have already checked with my Internet provider...not their problem.
Ran my Spyware Doc and Anitvirus program...nothing. Hope some one has a
solution. Thanks

One other thought.....Time Warner (my carrier) just replaced my modem and
that when this e-mail problem started. Has your modem been recently replaced?
A shot in the dark.

There is really some confusion going on.

The original poster has a problem with Outlook Express, but posted it in
this Outlook newsgroup. Tom suggested that it should be posted in the
correct (OE) newsgroup.

Now you come and say that you have the same problem, but you don't want
to post in the Outlook Express group. Why - do you use Outlook? What
version?

Blank emails are often sent by bored spammers, or disoriented spambots.
To find out if it's really blank spam - or a bug causing legitimate mail
to appear blank - check the source of the message body and header lines
of the mail message(s).

Patty Ann,

I have not recently replaced my modem or changed anything on my computer or
with my ISP. I too have run scans/virus checks etc. but nothing has
corrected or shown up as being defective. My blank e-mails are also
increasing each day. I am not glad that you are having the same problem but
it is good to know that obviously it is an Outlook problem and not an
individual PC problem. I will keep trying--will let you know if I have any
success. Thanks!

I did check the properties of a blank e-mail and it does look like it is
spam. But now my question is "How do I fix the problem?"

You could create a rule that deletes all messages and add an exception
condition of "except if the body contains specific words", with the "words"
being "a", "e", "i", "o", "u", and "y". That way, any messages without any
English words in the body will be deleted.

Sounds like a plan. I will try that. Thanks so very much for the suggestion.
I will let you know if that works.
